In reference to shopping, BA was an expensive city to buy things (No more since 1/JAN/2002 devaluation) that maybe you can get in your country, but if you have good information, you can buy some things that you cannot even think to buy in your country (e.g. antiquities, leather objects). So, be smart and make great shopping (I will help you out). Shopping malls are open from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. and the rest of shops from 9:00 am TO 8:00 am
At the airport you can recover the 21% VAT paid if you have
purchased local products for an amount greater than $70 (per invoice) in
shops members of this scheme, which show in their windows a "Global
Refund" logo. It comes as a Refund Check, so an invoice and forms must be
filled at the time of the purchase and you should present it at customs for
validation before to leave the country. The refund can be cashed or credited to
your credit card or you can cash it in any of the 140 Tax Refund offices that
Global Refund Company has around the world.
METHODS OF PAYMENT
Whilst the Dollar is generally accepted, foreign currency can be exchanged in banks and authorized bureau. The most commonly accepted credit cards are American Express, VISA, Diners and Master Card. There may be difficulties in changing traveler's checks outside of Buenos Aires (be careful to change them in banks because the official change for dollars could be less than the real: e.g. at this moment is 3.7). As there was a devaluation of our monetary sign the power of US dollars is growing every day and it is important to obtain a good change for your money. Keep in mind that you always can change your money at the hotel but you will not obtain the best price for your dollars
