Remember that in the southern hemisphere the seasons are the opposite to those in the northern hemisphere. In general, summer with mild temperatures and long days is the most ideal time to visit Patagonia and the Southern Andes. Winter time is recommended for traveling to the North and Northwest as the rains are less frequent and the tropical temperatures drop a few degrees. Autumn and Spring are marvelous in Buenos Aires, Cuyo and the pre-mountain range areas of La Rioja and Catamarca.
Fahrenheit to Celsius conversion is: centigrade by 9/5 plus 32 ( a practical rule is 2 times centigrade plus 30)
Argentina is a long and narrow country going from the subtropics along the northeastern border with Brazil to the cold regions of Tierra del Fuego in the south. The western edge of the country runs along the Andes Mountains. The Central Andes include the highest mountain in South America, Aconcagua, 6960 m (21,100 ft), but elevations gradually fall toward the south.
The Andes are high, dry (nearly all the rain falls on the western slopes in Chile), and thinly vegetated in many places. The north (Chaco) is hot and subtropical; the northeast (Misiones) is tropical and wet. The south (Patagonia) is cool, windy, and dry all year, with snow in winter. The central portion of Argentina (Pampas), with the primary business cities of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, and Rosario, is temperate.
Buenos Aires has a climate similar to New York City, although its winters are considerably milder and without snow. Summer-the months of January and February-is quite hot and humid; the city seems almost deserted because everyone who can flees to nearby beaches or mountains to get away from the heat. Winter is damp and chilly. Rain falls throughout the year, from 100 cm per year (39 in) in Buenos Aires to less than 50 cm (20 in) in Mendoza in the foothills of the Andes.
The best months to visit are April and May (autumn) and October and November (spring). However, business goes on year-round, although December, January, and February are the least optimal because of the Christmas season and the summer vacation schedule. Average annual temperatures range from 24·C (75·F) to 11·C (51·F) in Buenos Aires (sea level) and Córdoba (420 m/1270 ft), and 24·C (75·F) to 8·C (46·F) in Mendoza (820 m/2484 ft).
