Ecological Reserve and other areas of wild life (The Rivera Norte Wildlife Reserve and native birds pictures)

A unique place in the world is The Ecological Reserve of Costanera Sur in Buenos Aires which is a wetlands park two miles along the river situated two blocks from Government House (The same with Evita's balcony) and Plaza de Mayo, and just south of Yacht Club. That means as close to the downtown as Battery Park from Wall Street. The ecological reserve spontaneously developed in about 20 years when bathing beaches became too polluted and were used for deposit demolition debris. The River Plate provided tons of mud, birds brought seeds and nature did the rest.

Brushwood, copses of alders and willows and other environments feed insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Some may be seen in the water, in the grass, in flight or crossing over embankments. In the case of others, it is only possible to hear them sing. Here and there, small lakes opened sudden views. In the distance floated the Buenos Aires skyline. On the other side, the huge River Plate

What makes very special the ecological reserve is that it is a REAL WILD AREA were even snakes can be found (relax, they do not transit the trials because they are elevated), so you can see animals and birds totally free and in a natural background two blocks away from the downtown. You can see vegetation species typical of the River Plate coastline and the Paraná  River Delta.  wich seems like a brown sea.

Please do not walk down the embankments, damage plants, disturb animals, light fires, throw away cigarette butts.

All the Reserve's activity is monitored through TV cameras deployed on a 12-meter tower with remote command facilities in the control room. This give the opportunity to promptly call aid and prevention services, forest rangers and fire station.

You can transit the trials on foot or bike, watching animals and vegetation alone or in day and night guided tour (For more information please call 54-11-4315-4129/1320 or contact the Administration Office).
